How it all started:
As film cinematographer and inventor Hrvoje Sarić in 1972 he started to develop a very light and useful 360 camera in his workshop.
In 1972, Hrvoje Sarić constructed the SRF (synchronously rotating photo camera 360) itself. It is the world’s first 360 camera of professional quality:
a) Stop motion with exposure up to 1/1500sec
b) with the possibility of regulating the height of the horizon without disturbing the vertical lines
c) adapted “handheld” shooting, without a tripod
d) recording of serial photos 360, two images per second for the total length of the inserted film
e) replacement of various focal points
The largest black-and-white photograph, measuring 40m2, taken with the SRF 360 camera, was placed in a circle in 1972 in Rome.
Hrvoje Sarić joined the process of 360 photography early on and introduced very early new improvements and inventions that enhanced technology at that time.
Having 2 approved patents, and film cinematographer his passion for enhancing 360 technology continued through his life and was again put to the spot light when he was called to solve problems for Croatia EXPO 98 in Lisbon by constructing 9 Beta cameras.
In 1998 he introduced the first electronic construction consisting of nine BETACAM video cameras, catching every detail within the full circle, while the picture was projected onto a circular screen using nine LCD projectors.
This equipment has been exploited by the staff of Vinko Brešan, Croatian film director, to prepare a unique film describing one typical day at Croatian sea.
This film represented Croatia at the 1998 EXPO exhibition in Lisbon, capital of Portugal. It arose a great interest, and was visited by more than a million of people. The same construction has been used for the new film which represented Croatia at the 2000 EXPO exhibition in Hannover, Germany.
Hrvoje Sarić prepared about two hundred various short films, documentaries and stories from Croatia. He is the recipient of Golden Bear in Venice for his “Lost Pen” in the category of films for children. Mr. Sarić lived with his family very modestly, in silence, far from any publicity.
